In loving memory of Frederick George Burchell who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13th, 2020 at Pioneer Manor at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgette (Georgie), his son John (Winda) and his daughter Jennifer (Euel Bailey- predeceased). He was the cherished grandfather of Katya and Javen, a good friend to his brother and sister-in-law’s, and beloved 'Uncle Fred' to his many nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Copper Cliff and loved to tell tales of his boyhood on Gribble Street with his family and siblings (all predeceased). He was a proud graduate of the University of Toronto (Mechanical Engineering - 1950) and later obtained his first class stationary engineering license. He retired in 1982 after 38 years of service with INCO. During his working years, he was very involved with the Copper Cliff Athletic Association and many other worthy pursuits in the community. After his retirement, he volunteered with several organizations and served on the board of the General Hospital and the Central Laundry. He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips internationally and was particularly fond of his winters in Portugal with Georgie. He was a quiet, humble man who loved to laugh with his family and friends. He was a true gentleman, had several athletic pursuits including golf and skiing and was an avid bridge and cribbage player. He had a passion for music and sang in his church choir and with the September Classics group for many years. He was always ready to serenade his friends and family with his harmonica and eagerly led every singalong. He was most happy hosting or enjoying time with his extended family, whether it was at the annual Christmas gatherings or at his beloved cottage on Little Lake Penage which he considered his sanctuary. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father who was quick to help others with a friendly smile and a happy heart. Respecting Fred's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place July 24th at St. John the Divine in Copper Cliff (the church of his youth) at 2:00p.m. with a celebration of life following the service at Bryston's on the Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the charity of your choice.
