Smith, M. Hazel (Bannerman)

In loving memory of Hazel Margaret Smith (nee Bannerman), who passed away on January 24th, 2020 at the age of 77. Loving mother of Jamie (wife Michelle), Justin (friend Barb), and Jeremy, all of Sudbury. Former spouse to Phil Smith. Cherished grandma to Sarah and Tyler. Daughter of Harriet and Hugh Bannerman (predeceased). Sister to Muriel, Betty, Robbie, and James (all predeceased), and Tom of Aurora. Missed by many nieces and nephews, and many friends, including those from her parish at St. Peter’s, CFUW, SYC, and her online knitting club, Ravelry. Hazel was a devoted elementary school teacher at various schools in Sudbury throughout her career; education was important to her, as her many students would attest. She loved reading, knitting, wine, the opera, ballet, symphony, and her friends. Hazel loved company and good conversation. All you had to do was show up, and she talked until you left -- and sometimes even after you left. A service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at St. Peter’s United Church, 203 York Street, Sudbury, ON, with a gathering and refreshments to follow at 3:30 pm at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club, located at 400 Walford Road, Sudbury, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), or St. Peter’s United Church in Sudbury. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
