Mrozewski, Janina 'Babcia' (Karolewska)

Janina “Babcia” Mrozewski (nee Karolewska) was born in 1930 in Poland and orphaned at the age of 9. She came to Montreal in 1950, where she met Andrzej and they married in 1954. Together they lived in Montreal, Ottawa, Rouyn-Noranda, and Sherbrooke before settling in Sudbury in 1972. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past August. Babcia, as she was known to all, was an avid gardener, loved to cook and play bridge. She also cross-country skied, kayaked, did pottery, and loved to sew clothes for her kids, grandchildren, and herself. In later life, she was afflicted with Alzheimer’s, but she never wavered in her zest for life and love of family. Janina is survived by her husband Andrzej, her children Andre (Bernadette), Monika (Eric Pahapill), Jasiu (Jennifer), and grandchildren Matjash, Stefan, Tomasz, Andre-Michel, Aleksa, Stefan, Lucas, and Kristen. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society, St. Casimir’s Church, or the charity of your choice. Will rest at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, and will have a Funeral Mass at St. Casimir’s Church, 210 Paris Street. Times and dates for funeral and visitation to be confirmed at a later date.
