Dolores Nicolene “Gus” Kilpatrick (nee Thomson) Born August 6, 1938 in Levack, Ontario, Gus was the eldest of Louis and Angela Thomson’s seven children. Following graduation from Marymount School of Nursing in 1959, she joined Sudbury General Hospital. During her 40-year career, Gus completed a BA from Laurentian University in Sudbury, taught in the nursing sciences program at Cambrian College, earned an MA in adult education from Central Michigan University and a Masters in Nursing from the University of Calgary. She joined Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond, Alberta as a nurse educator, and then moved to White Rock, B.C. where she was Director of the Wellness Centre at Peace Arch Hospital until her retirement in 2002. In 2001, she received an Award of Excellence from the Registered Nurses Association of B.C. and was recognized as a Woman of Distinction in Healthcare by the YMCA of Vancouver in 2002. Gus died January 7, 2020 of complications caused by Parkinson’s Disease. Remembering her with love: daughters Karen (Mark Goodchild, son Mason and daughter-in-law Rebecca, and daughter Lara), Christine, aka Atlyn (Gordie Bowes, son Mackenzie and daughter Megan), and Vicky, aka Ange; a large extended family and many friends. A celebration of Gus’ life will take place this summer at Windy Lake in Ontario, a place she loved. Donations can be made to the BCSPCA
