It is with great sadness that the family of Ricardo (Rick) Mucin announces his passing, April 16, 2019, peacefully with his loving family by his side, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years young. Predeceased by his parents Avellino and Valeria Mucin. Devoted and loving husband of 41 years to Veronica (nee Nicholls). Devoted and loving father to Greg (Lisa) and Tina (Bob). Cherished Nonno to Tyler, Amy, Ric and Holly. Rick will be sadly missed by his sister Rita and brother-in-law Rudy Bombardieri and their family. Rick was a special brother-in-law to Philip and Mairead Nicholls (predeceased), Lois and Joe (predeceased) Sorbera, Joe and Irene Nicholls, Gerry and Brenda Nicholls, Marion and Dan Fantetti, and their families. Dearly missed by his god-children, Darren, Anna, Bryan, Damian and Jeffrey and many nieces and nephews. Rick was born in Udine, Italy and came to Canada at the age of 14. He retired as a maintenance foreman from Inco after 32 years and left the work force from Anmar Mechanical in 2014 as a safety supervisor. Rick was a faith-filled member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1387. A hard-working family man, Rick was most happy sitting around the dining room table with his kids and grandchildren “eating together”. He had a passion for the outdoors – early mornings he would be found fishing at his favourite spot waiting to catch the big one or blueberry picking on a warm sunny day; he took great pride in his vegetable garden and in the evening, he would be cheering on the Blue Jays. He loved to show off his culinary skills and his hot peppers were always in demand. Rick was a great mentor to his family and leaves a rich legacy of love and friendship to all who had the privilege of knowing him and to all the lives he touched. He will be truly missed. Our heartfelt thanks to the Northeast Cancer Centre – Dr. Pearce, Dr. Noble, the chemo room nurses and especially Dr. Singh and his Supportive Care Team who walked with us continually and navigated us on this very difficult journey. Special thanks to the 5th floor Palliative Care staff who compassionately cared for Rick in his final days. Resting at the Lougheed Funeral Home 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Sudbury (Friends may call 4-8pm Monday with parish prayers at 6:30pm Monday). Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Hope Church 591 Brennan Road, Sudbury Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 at 10:30am. Interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery. Donations to the Samaritan Centre or Northern Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
