In Loving Memory of Richard (Rick) Briggs, 72 years who passed away with his son by his side on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Loving father of Christopher Briggs and Tresha Briggs-Nash. Proud grandfather of 6. Dear brother of Douglas Briggs, Marion Fenton, Elizabeth Riedle, Art (predeceased) and Hillis (predeceased). Born in Sussex, NB he was the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Parlee) Briggs. Sadly, missed by many nieces and nephews as well as by his “Brothers and Sisters” of Local 598. His life story reads of an eager young man who began his career as a Miner with Falconbridge and worked his way up to be the Long-time President of Mine Mill Union Local 598. A position he held dearly and took great pride in. This journey began as a Union organizer and representative and ended years later with a tremendous legacy of someone who worked tirelessly as a Union Leader, Tradesman, and an activist who fought for his workers and their rights. Upon his retirement from Falconbridge, Rick went on to work with the Ontario Government at The Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and will be remembered as a respected and dedicated Union President. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory can be made directly to The Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held back home in New Brunswick where his cremains will be laid to rest. Arrangements entrusted to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
