In loving memory of our dear husband and father Salvatore “Sam” Vruna, 80 years. Sam passed away suddenly with his family by his side on Saturday May 19th, 2018 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Beloved husband of Nicolina Vruna (Bertucci), married 57 years. Loving father of Sina Kicz (Peter Kicz Jr Naughton, ON), Mary Vruna (Toronto, ON) and Francesco Vruna (predeceased, Thunder Bay, ON). Cherished grandfather of Nicholas Kicz (London, ON), Marli Kicz (London, UK) and Nathan Lorimer (Aimee Reyes Stephenville, TX). Great grandfather to Liam Lorimer (TX). Beloved brother of Nina Vruna (Caltanisetta, Sicily), Maria Vruna (Caltanisetta, Sicily), Vianna Vruna (Salvatore Ippolito Hannover, Germany) and Michele Vruna (Gianina Vruna Mazara del Vallo, Sicily). Cherished sister in laws Mariangela Rosso (Vincenzo Rosso both predeceased Thunder Bay). Immaculata Galati (Benito Galati predeceased Thunder Bay) Uncle “Sammi” was cherished by numerous nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay, Italy and Germany who all held a special place in his heart. Sam was born in Santa Caterina, Villarmosa, Sicily on July 17th 1937 to Tommasina and Francesco Vruna (Predeceased). He met the love of his life and immigrated to Canada in 1963 to fulfill their new life together. Sam worked in construction and later at United Grain Growers, Thunder Bay until his retirement. Sam was a devoted and loving husband, father and nonno. He had a passion for gardening, love of food, cooking and always opened his door to welcome anyone. He was a member of the Italian Society (Port Arthur) and Caruso Club (Sudbury). He was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church (Thunder Bay). Sam was a man with a heart as big an ocean. His generosity had no boundaries. He had the ability to make friends no matter where he went. Always ready to help anyone in need. He will always be known for his amazing gardening skills, cooking, homemade wine, bocce ball, hunting and fishing. A fresh batch of cement never ceased to put a smile on his face. We will miss you dearly, your smile will never fade from our memory and we will carry you in our hearts forever Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home (233 Larch Street, Sudbury). Friends and family are invited on Thursday, May 24th, 2018 from 3-7 pm, with prayers & words of remembrance at 6:30 pm. The family will announce at a later date a memorial mass and celebration of his life to be held in Thunder Bay with interment to follow alongside his son in St. Andrews Cemetery, Oliver Road, Thunder Bay. Donations to St. Joseph’s Villa would be appreciated by the family.
