In loving memory of Hurlie Hreljac, who passed away peacefully in his 93rd year, on April 15th, 2018 at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. Beloved husband and best friend for 55 years to Arletta (née Flora) Hreljac, predeceased 2004. Dear father of Robert (Faye) of Lively, Ed (Debbie) of Waterloo, Alan (Jennifer) of Kauai, Chris of Toronto, and Danny (Marie) of Toronto. Cherished grandfather of Mathew (Tara), Brad, Jon, Jeff, Danielle, Jessica, and great grandfather of Kaitlyn, Kyle, Penelope, and Hannah. Dear brother of John (Maureen predeceased), Mary Fazekas (Lou predeceased), Frank (Karen), Vic (Beth), Ed predeceased (wife Pauline), and Lillian Dmytrasz (Ed). Hurlie will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Hurlie was born in Yugoslavia and at the age of four immigrated to Creighton Mines with his parents Mathew and Branka, where he lived until a move to Lively in 1973. He was an avid sportsman throughout his life. As a young man, he played baseball and was an accomplished bowler (including bowling a perfect game). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching his sons’ hockey teams, and curling in those days as well. Hurlie was a lifelong member of the Lively Golf Club and represented the club well in many tournaments. His seven holes in one are an indicator of the time dedicated to his favourite endeavour. He worked at INCO for 43 years, retiring at the age of 63. Hurlie and Arletta shared many good times together as Winter Texans following his retirement. Rarely did he miss a day of golf with his Texas friends, often followed by fishing. He truly enjoyed his time of retirement all year long. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers who provided assistance to Hurlie. Special thank you to Dr. Monica Susil and associate doctors of the City of Lakes team, Annie and other Bayshore PSWs, the nurses and staff on the 5th floor south tower at Health Sciences North, and staff at Meadowbrook. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. For those who wish to contribute, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to Ryan’s Well https://www.ryanswell.ca/ would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
