Cormier, Lola (Pocrnick)

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mom Lola Cormier on Sunday February 19th 2017 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice. Cherished wife and lifelong dance partner to the late Harvey Cormier (predeceased 2015). Loving and loved mother of Janet Smith (Ian), John (Paula) and Jennifer Nowak (Peter) all of Sudbury, Laura and Lisa (predeceased 1977) Kind and caring Nana to her special grandchildren whom she adored, Renay, Ryan, Evan, Kai, Joshua and Colin. She was the dear daughter of the late John and Mary Pocrnick (nee Furlan) of Sudbury. Special sister to Mandy Sutter (Henry predeceased) of Sudbury, Tom Pocrnick (Adriana predeceased) of Sudbury and John Pocrnick (Lily predeceased) of Hamilton. Lola was born on August 2nd 1935 in Dartmouth Nova Scotia and lived in South Porcupine before eventually moving to Sudbury. She met the “love of her life” Harvey, while working as a receptionist at C.K.S.O. radio station and married in 1958. She was always most proud of her family and loved being surrounded by her precious grandchildren who filled her life with endless hours of joy, laughter hugs and smiles. Vacationing trips to visit with family and friends on the East Coast, Chicago, Wisconsin, Florida and Mexico were always a highlight that provided her with special memories of “good times”. It was no secret that Lola was an exceptional cook and whether it was at the family home on Long Lake or the cottage at Birch Island she always made sure family and guests were well fed – her “signature dishes” (cabbage rolls, lasagna and pierogies) are legendary. To everyone that knew her she was tireless and generous with her love and devotion to family and friends – even through her illness she would always go out of her way taking care of others before herself. In her spare time she enjoyed a good game of cards and catching up with her many friends at the bingo (or as our dad would lovingly say .... “your mother is at the office again” ). Lola was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The family would like to express our most sincere thanks and gratitude to Lyle Foreshew, Leo Therrien, and all of the amazing and compassionate staff and nursing angels at the Maison McCulloch Hospice. As per her wishes, there will be no service or visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
