In Loving Memory of Dr. Michael Orest Yankowsky M.D. (Family Medicine) It is with great sadness the family announces his passing on Monday, July 25th, 2016 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Sudbury, he was the son of Mary and Alexander Yankowsky both predeceased and brother to William and Nadia both predeceased. Beloved husband of Mary and loving father to Catherine. Michael graduated from the University of Toronto in Medicine and interned at St. Michael’s and East General Hospitals. He practiced medicine in Toronto then moved to Sudbury where he practiced family medicine until 1996. He did surgical assisting until he fully retired. He was a member of the Hart House and Crean Hill Gun Clubs. He attended St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. He loved the outdoors, spending as much time as he could fishing and wandering through the woods. He had many trips abroad with his wife Mary and to Deerhurst skiing in the winter with friends. Michael will be missed by many nieces and nephews and by his godchild Michael Mortimer and “little sister” Jennifer of Italy. He was a member of the Ukrainian Professional and Business Scholarship Committee Board of Directors. Michael had a great thirst for knowledge and he was a committed life long learner. He enjoyed the study of languages and presently attended the German language school. He was a well respected physician by his patients, colleagues and the community. He was always quick to help others. The light of his life will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Sudbury Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, CNIB or Health Sciences North Equipment Fund would be appreciated. (Friends may call at the church after 10:45 A.M.
