Thomas, E. Katherine (Hedegaard)

It is with broken hearts that her daughters announce the passing of their mother, Katherine E (Hedegaard) Thomas, peacefully on January 17, 2020. Kathy was 77 years old. Kathy was born in Toronto, on April 20, 1942. She was the blessed only child to Oskar and Tyyne Hedegaard (both predeceased). In 1960, Kathy met the love of her life, Kenneth Thomas (predeceased 2008) on a blind date. They married a few months later. Kathy has dearly missed him since his death and has now joined her beloved husband of 45 years. She is survived by her loving daughters Gayle Viau (Bob) of Val Caron, Deborah Richer (Robert) of Chelmsford and Karen Burbee (Mark) of Fort Mill, South Carolina. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Deidre, Melissa, Crystal, Johnathon, Samantha, Jessica, Christina, Christopher and Rachel as well as her cherished great grandsons Samuel and Avery. She will be sadly missed by her fur babies, Benji and Willow as well as many friends. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and friend. She treasured her daughters and embraced every moment with them. “Mom, you were always the first person we called for advice. You were not just our mother but also our counselor and friend. We appreciate and love you more than you will ever know.” Throughout her life, Kathy enjoyed her time as a Girl Guide leader and school crossing guard. Kathy also worked at Bianco's Video in Val Caron until her retirement. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family, socializing with friends, reading and a little travel. Her daughters would like to give heart thanks to her nurse from Bayshore, Amanda Brioux for her wonderful care to our mom. In keeping with Kathy's wishes there will be no service or visitation. A private interment will be held at Valley East cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations in Kathy's memory may be made to the Children's Make a Wish Foundation or Sudbury Pediatrics.
