Lalonde, W. Jean (Dixon)

Jean Winnifred Lalonde (nee Dixon) passed away at Pioneer Manor on her 98th birthday, November 14th, 2019 with her children by her side. Born in Sudbury, November 14th, 1921 to Frank and Mary Dixon. Sister to 8 siblings all of whom predeceased her. She was a lifelong resident of Sudbury and was married to the love of her life, Raymond Lalonde. They were married for 37 years until his death in 1978. Devoted mother to 5 children, Wayne (predeceased 2019) wife Colleen, Ray (wife Margie), Louise Charron (husband Richard), Jean Hyland (Lindsay predeceased 2005) and Frank (predeceased 2015) wife Marilyne. Proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was an executive secretary for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services until she retired at age 65. Our mom was unwavering, devoted and so very proud of her children. She was hard working, tenacious and resilient. At 58 years old, she got her first ever driver’s license, bought herself her first car and promptly drove to Montreal and Bowmanville to visit her sons and grandchildren. Also, she bought her first home at the age of 65. She was determined that all her children would receive a good education. She lived her life with integrity. Our mom was a true beauty, “a real head turner” as many would say. She carried herself with grace and dignity. She was a life long walker, walking for miles every day, rain or shine, until the age of 94. With gratitude, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jacques and the staff of “Pine Wing” Pioneer Manor for their wonderful care and support. Burial took place at the Lasalle Roman Catholic Cemetery. Thank you, Mom, for being brave, fearless and fiercely loyal to your family. A mother to be proud of. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
