It’s with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Velma Margaret Ann Tansley on Tuesday October 8, 2019 at Health Sciences North at the age of 98 years. Velma was born in Cache Bay, Ontario on January 19, 1921. Beloved wife of John Tansley, predeceased 1999. Loving Mother of Wendy (predeceased) and Barry (Sharon). She was extremely proud of her three grandsons Bryan, Kyle (Brittany) and Matthew as well as her cherished great grandson, Ryder. Velma is predeceased by her brother Art and sister-in-law, Alicia as well as her brother-in-law Gerry and sister-in-law Betty. Survived by her nieces Barbara Rodrique (Moe), Penny (Reiner) and Debbie (Del) as well as great nieces Susan (Frank), Mary and Michaela (Sean). Velma had a long and successful 30-year career in the banking industry, first with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce followed by the Royal Bank of Canada. While her greatest passion was her family. She was also an avid sports fan. She was an active senior and curled with the Nickel Centre Seniors until she was 80. Velma also loved her cards. She played her whole life and finished her final game this past Monday. Velma was devoted to her faith and was a founding and active member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Garson. The family would like to thank the amazing PSW’s, nurses and volunteers at Finlandia Village for their compassionate care during the six years that she called Finlandia home. A special thank you from the family to her card playing buddies, Denise and Mark. They provided many hours of fun and companionship during her stay at Finlandia. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Finlandia SISU Foundation would be appreciated. Funeral Visitation in the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9pm Tuesday and after 9:30am Wednesday). Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Wednesday, October 16th, 2019 at 10:30 am. Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Union Cemetery, Sturgeon Falls.
