Charette, C. Constance

In loving memory of Constance Claudia Charette who passed away peacefully at Pioneer Manor on September 30, 2019. À la douce mémoire de Constance Claudia Charette qui est décédée au Manoir des pionniers le 30 septembre 2019. Constance was born on September 7, 1924 to the late Albert and Léonida Charette (née Vigneault). Dear sister of Martial (Mike) Charette of Arizona (Lois predeceased), Francine Charette (predeceased) and Normand Charette (predeceased). Loving aunt of Nicole Charette of Sudbury, André Charette of Kitchener, Louise Charette (predeceased) and Nina Charette-Meisel (Rob) of Arizona. Survived by great-nieces and nephews, Katherine and Alex of Kitchener, and Allison and Tyler of Arizona. At age 30, Constance entered the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception whose Motherhouse was in Montreal. Sister Martiale was a member of the order for 15 years. In the early 60s, she went to Cochabamba, Bolivia, where she taught English to teenage girls. She also worked in Santa Cruz and Lima. Proficient in English, French and Spanish, upon her return to Sudbury she supported language professors at Laurentian University and later became secretary to the official translator, a position she held until her retirement in 1990. Constance enjoyed movies and music. Her mother was a church organist and piano teacher. Her brother Mike is an accomplished pianist, and she could play the boogie-woogie at age 90. Constance was also fiercely independent and valued her time alone. She found serenity in solitude, expressing her creativity through the arts. Colouring was a source of comfort, a metaphor for life, with each blank canvas an opportunity for reflection and renewal. The family thanks the staff of Pioneer Manor for their tremendous care and compassion. C’est à ton tour de te reposer chère Constance. Tu as enfin rencontré ton Divin Maître. Visitation will take place at La paroisse Ste-Anne-des-Pins (St. Anne’s Church), 14 Beech Street in Sudbury on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10 am. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 am. Donations to La paroisse Ste-Anne-des-Pins or the Rainbow District School Board Joan Mantle Music Trust would be greatly appreciated.
