Joyce Margaret Haley On July 15, 2019, God blessed our beautiful, strong and courageous mom with her wings and granted her eternal life. We are honored to share part of her journey. Joyce Margaret Haley (nee Brautigam) was of German descent and was born on Grandma and Grandpa’s farm (Edward Brautigam and Violet Heimbecker-Dettman) on April 29, 1934 in Howick Township, Huron County. Her fondness and respect for her siblings was evident to us at all times – she leaves behind her adoring siblings: Marlene (Jack), Marjorie (Bob) (both predeceased), Edward Junior (died at 14 months old) Keith (Greta), Dale, Diane and June (Ken predeceased). Mom was a smart, happy and strong soul. She shared her childhood memories with us growing up in the Great Depression, World War 2 and experiencing Beatlemania and Elvis Presley’s evolution. The stories she told us about her and the young children in her school house in Clifford, Ontario being taught how to knit mittens, socks and scarves for the troops fighting in the war as an extra curricular activity to their studies made us proud and mindful of her humble upbringings. Mom ventured off to Sudbury to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse; although her career aspirations didn’t transpire exactly as planned, her love of children and starting a family became paramount. She leaves behind her adoring and devoted children that are forever grateful for her mothering: Diane (Stanley), Wayne, Cathy (Gary), Jo-Anne (Steve) and Sheri (Derek). Mom was a humble, kind, generous and loving person and despite all the hardships she faced, she always made her house a home by filling it with children and with God’s love. She was an incredible homemaker, a devote Presbyterian, loved to travel and was highly skilled with knitting needles, crochet hooks and enjoyed her weekly outings to Bingo. A farm girl at heart she had quite the green thumb. She was a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan and adored Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers back in the 1980’s and she instilled the love for hockey in us younger siblings. Thanks Mom. But most of all she cherished her family and instilled her strong values that served them all well. She was monumental in the upbringing of her grandchildren and loved them to the fullest – she leaves behind Christopher, Junior, Mark (predeceased), Christina, Betty Anne, Chad, Miranda, Stephanie, Deven, Wesley and Sydney. She leaves behind many great-grandbabies as well. She will forever remain in all their memories and in their loving hearts. Mom never let Parkinson’s disease define her and she fought a courageous battle until the end with all of her might and dignity. Our family is forever grateful to the Staff, PSWs, nurses and management of the Elizabeth Centre for their care and compassion. Special shout out to Lloyd, Liane, Claudette, Joelle and Yvonne but we thank and love you all! Thankful appreciation to Dr. Jakelski is also extended. Please give generously in our Mom’s memory to The Elizabeth Centre Resident Council or to Parkinson’s Canada – please see Jo-Anne Dupuis for donation forms. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal love leaves a memory no one can steal”.
