Antonio Stefano Masotti December 26, 1931 - June 23, 2019 Tony passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Health Sciences North on the Cardiac Medical Unit. He is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor (née Baldisera), his children Cristina (Quinn), Matthew (Amy), and Jennifer. He was loved very dearly by his granddaughters Dea and Alix. Always a gentle soul who was generous of spirit, everyone who knew Tony has a humorous story to tell. He met his end with bravery, dignity and his one-of-a-kind sense of humour. He loved to be surrounded by family, enjoying a good meal, conversation, and laughter. Tony immigrated to Sudbury from San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy when he was 17 years old to work at Inco for 17 years. Tony then founded Cortina Pizza with his brother Vito in 1964. Together they grew it into, at its height, a franchise of 21 restaurants throughout Northern Ontario. He could always be found at the Martindale Road headquarters, greeting guests, and treating regular customers. Tony was responsible for building the Cortina boat, a beautiful tour boat on Lake Ramsey which is still in operation to this day. He sponsored countless charities and sports associations throughout his business career. He treated his employees with respect and as extended family. He leaves this legacy of kindness and community in all of our hearts. Tony and Eleanor were married on July 6, 1962. She will miss him with all of her heart and soul, as will his children, grandchildren, his brother Giovanni and sister-in-law Marisa, Thom Payne (father of Dea Masotti Payne), his sister Concetta, his sisters-in-law Jean McNair (Ron predeceased) and Elaine Semler (George), his sister-in-law Antonia (Vito predecased) as well as his nieces and nephews Sandra, Diana, Stephen, Eddie, Rodney, and Sarah. He joins his parents Giovanni Battista and Marianna, brothers Francesco, Vito and Louis, nephew Robert, father-in-law Victor, mother-in-law Yolanda and brother-in-law Ron in heaven. It’s going to be a party, and in the words of Tony, “Don’t be fear, Tony’s here!” The Masotti family would like to thank the excellent care received by the nurses and physicians of the Emergency Department of Health Sciences North, and especially the CMU team, who all did their absolute best for him in the last two weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cardiac Medical Unit at HSN, or to St. Peter’s United Church. Memorial Service in St. Peter’s United Church 203 York Street, Sudbury Friday, June 28th, 2019 at 2pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
