It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Giovanna Rocca, in Sudbury Ontario, on Sunday, May 12th, 2019. Beloved wife of Filippo Rocca who predeceased her in 2015. Giovanna was born in Acquafredda, Italy, on May 4th, 1921 to Giuseppe Peppino Rocca and Maria Rocca, both predeceased. Loving Mother of Ida Maria Minniti (Domenico), Saverio Rocca who predeceased her in 2018 (Betty of Sudbury), and Benito Rocca (Samantha predeceased) of Fonthill. Cherished Grandmother of Anthony Minniti (Anahita), Joanna-Maria Minniti, Amanda Rocca, Eva Rocca, and Phillip Rocca. Great Grandmother of Beata and Ava Ariana-Minniti. Predeceased by her brothers Antonio (Giuseppina), Francesco (Giuseppina), and Agostino (Rosa of Italy), and sisters Rosaria Rocca (Filippo of Italy), and Luisa Mastroianni (Pasquale of Argentina). Giovanna will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy, and Argentina. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her young family to join her husband, who had arrived in Canada several years prior. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener, and a master of traditional Italian cooking. Her new home in Gatchell soon became a place of hospitality, warmth, and friendship to many new immigrant families. In her quiet manner, she soon integrated into the Canadian society with many other immigrant families, and lifelong friendships were enjoyed. In 1983, Giovanna and her husband returned back to Italy to live their golden years together. Following the passing of her husband, Giovanna returned once again to live her final years with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was her wish to make one final journey to return to Italy for entombment in the family crypt in Lamezia Terme, Italy. Giovanna leaves behind her spirit of family, loyalty, and endurance. Ciao Giovanna “Ciccaredra”. Ci vediamo ari Rinnini e are Serre. Funeral Service in the Lougheed Funeral Home 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Sudbury Thursday, May 16th, 2019 at 11:30am.
