It is with great sadness that the family of Jason McKeddie announces his sudden passing in Timmins, Ontario on May 5th at the age of 40. Loving and adored son of Claudette McKeddie and Robert McKeddie (predeceased) in 2006. Beloved “little brother” of Sylvie (Rose) Berardelli. Special nephew of Claude (predeceased) and Yolande Démoré of Hanmer, Leonie and Ron Lamothe of Sudbury, Michel and Diane Démoré of Sudbury, Jean and Nichole Démoré of Ottawa, Kathy McKeddie of Renfrew, Carol Legree and Ed (predeceased) of Renfrew. Jason will be missed and fondly remembered by his many cousins and countless friends. Jason was an amazing individual who devoted his life to helping others. He inspired people through his amazing courage, his leadership and exemplary community service. Jason volunteered for over 20 years at the General Hospital and at HSN. He assisted all emergency patients with the greatest care. He had a heart like no other. He also volunteered for the Greater Sudbury Police Services Citizens on Patrol and proudly played the role of Inspector Mooseau at many events within the community. His greatest passion was volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross and being deployed to help others in times of need. His bags were always packed and he would be available on a moment’s notice. During his final days, Jason was in Timmins Ontario managing a shelter for Kashechewan evacuees. He was so proud of his work and his heart was filled with compassion. He was a trained search and rescue volunteer and a First Aid instructor. In 2012, Jason was recognized with a Governor General’s award for bravery. He has countless volunteer awards and a civic award for his tireless voluntary work. He was a hero to his family and to many in his community and Jason will be forever remembered as such. Jason loved spending time with his mother playing cards, challenging each other on iPad games or just talking. He always made sure he checked in daily with all who meant the world to him. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, loved travelling and loved life no matter his challenges. Jason always found humour in life’s events. His teasing smile and belly laugh giggle will be cherished forever. Heaven has gained an extraordinary angel. Rest in peace Jason, your work on earth is done. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts. A celebration of Jason’s life will take place at the Lougheed Funeral Home Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer, Ontario on May 18th from 1pm to 4pm with words of remembrance at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to support Jason’s humanitarian work by making a donation to the Sudbury branch of the Canadian Red Cross in his honour.
