After a long-lived 97 years, family driven and love-blessed life, our feisty Grama has taken her well-deserved rest. Proud of her hard working early Acadian life, it was spent with her family in St. Louis de Kent where her lobster fishing family molded her into the spunky, sincere woman she was. Marrying Emile Lavoie (predeceased 2009) in 1946, she began her family life, putting down roots in Sultan, Chapleau, Sault Ste. Marie and finally, Sudbury. Her first daughter, Regina Richards (Wayne) represented friendship, love and coffee dates. Her second daughter, Elizabeth Lavoie (predeceased 1996) represented companionship, pride and ever-loving gossip. Her third daughter Rita Lavoie (predeceased 2011) represented beauty, joy and trouble making. Her last daughter, Tonie Stevens (Jim) represented peacefulness, determination and French-fries. Her son, Rene Lavoie (Darcy) represented laughter, humility and great bonfires. Grandchildren will profoundly miss being chased by her with brooms wagging, wooden spoons waving and tremendous loving. Glenn, Jeff (Jenny), Mike (Jen), Nathalie (Blair), Julian (Lindsay), Lance (Julia), Tania, Rene Jr. and Sabrina (predeceased 2015) will toast her spirit and keep the memories alive with laughter and remembrance. Her great-grandchildren were raised to love and honour her and do so with pride. Family stories always begin with fond memories of Grama and end with laughter of the hell raising everyone put her through. She loved her family unconditionally, fiercely and completely. She was the family glue that everyone always gravitated towards and looked to when in need of grounding. Special thanks to her wonderful care team at St. Joseph’s Villa – she thrived because of the care and love you provided. We will all miss her dearly, but know that heaven is a much more “shway-shway” place because of her. In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or service.
