Keaney, J. Patrick 'Pat, Patty, Patty-Jo, P.J'

In Loving Memory of Patrick Joseph Keaney (Pat, Patty, Patty-Jo, P.J.) 61 years Peacefully Thursday, March 14th, 2019 at Health Sciences North, Patrick went to join his beloved father Maurice at the 1st tee of the Heavenly Golf Course. Beloved son of Patricia (Fitzgerald) Keaney and the late Maurice Keaney predeceased 1996, whose paternal bond was most important to Patrick. Lovingly remembered by sister Christine McKinty (William), brother Glenn (Carole). Loving father of Landan (Anne Marie) and Myles . Cherished grandfather to Simone. Sadly missed by, former partners Betty Burns and Denise Sandul, uncle Tom (Fitzgerald), aunt Shirley (Mousseau), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born and raised in Sudbury, Patrick moved to Vancouver at age 19, where he studied to be a Real Estate Appraiser and worked in that capacity. An avid skier and accomplished golfer, Patrick worked as a ski instructor in Whistler, and hosted a TV Golf Instructional Program in Vancouver. In describing Patrick, memories and words would include “he would give you the shirt off his back”, “he had the Gift of Gab”, he befriended people from all walks of life, and had lots of “buddies”! He was gregarious, generous, charming, and friendly. He moved back to Sudbury in the mid-90s and continued working in Real Estate. He retired in 2014 from his work as a Peer Support with HSN’s ACT team Mental Health Program. As one of his peers/clients said, “Patrick was very patient, kind, and supportive on all of his visits with me. He was the best support worker [she] ever had.” He volunteered for the Provincial and Federal Liberal parties and coordinated charitable golf tournaments, raising significant dollars for worthy charities. He was planning to organize a golf tournament this summer for the Maison McCulloch Hospice. Patrick was an eternal optimist, whether the sun shone on his life or not. This handsome Irishman with his naturally curly hair has had his beautiful eyes donated, so his Irish eyes will continue to smile, appropriately on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day. His precious mom shares this verse: He lived and loved and worked and played, And often took time to share a laugh… He always tried to do his best, But now he knows that he must rest… Special thanks to the “Koka family of doctors” and friend Patrice Lalande. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CMHA Sudbury Branch or Elgin Street Mission would be appreciated. A Memorial Mass will be held in Our Lady of Hope Church 591 Brennan Road, Sudbury Saturday, May 25th, 2019 @ 10:30 am Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Sudbury Catholic Cemetery. Friends may gather at the church after 10:00 am Saturday. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
