Park, Lois (Robertson)

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Lois Park (nee Robertson) at Maison McCulloch Hospice on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the age of 89. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 63 years, Earl Park. Loving mother of Leslie Capstick (Steve), Margot Roberts, Shirley Pearson (Ian), and Mary Park. Devoted grandmother to Amanda, Michael, David, and Thomas Capstick; Matthew and Kyle Roberts; and Jeff, Brad and Andy Pearson. Survived by her sister Marilyn Corbold, sisters-in-law Inez Backs and Isabel McDiarmid and predeceased by brother Doug and sisters Gwen and Shirley. Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, friends, and community members. Lois loved her family and was an excellent role model for her girls. She read voraciously, and her children and grandchildren followed her example to become book lovers themselves. Lois was an understanding woman whom one could always turn to for advice. Modest and humble, Lois shunned the spotlight; her language of love was service for others. Following graduation from Victoria College, University of Toronto, Lois became an elementary school teacher. The school board did not allow married women to teach beyond three years, so after that time she stayed at home to care for her growing family. Always a talented seamstress, Lois spent many hours lovingly and meticulously making clothes for her daughters and grandchildren. Wherever she lived, whether in Kitchener-Waterloo, Atikokan or Sudbury, Lois, with her many diverse interests, always actively participated in community and church life. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s United Church for over fifty years; superintendent of the Sunday School, choir member, Church Council member, and enthusiastic UCW participant. For thirty years, she and Earl organized the St. Peter’s semiannual yard sale, from which all proceeds went to support local, national and international charities. Always a music lover, Lois sang in the Sudbury Philharmonic Choir and the Bel Canto Chorus. She was also involved with the CFUW and the Antiques Group. A keen bridge player, she enjoyed the fellowship of many bridge clubs throughout the years. Lois loved swimming and swam regularly at the pool and beloved family cottage up until last summer. She was also a world traveler; she and Earl visited about seventy countries after retirement, meeting many wonderful people while learning about different cultures. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and the other health care providers who gave such excellent care during Lois’s illness. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Maison McCulloch Hospice for their kind, loving and compassionate care during the last weeks of her journey, and also to the wonderful people at St. Peter’s United Church who provided such loving support over the past months. In keeping with Lois’s wishes, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Peter’s United Church on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00am. with a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made directly to St. Peter’s United Church or Maison McCulloch Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
