Laakso-Valiaho, T. Taimi (Lappi)

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved Aiti and Mummu on January 12th, 2019. She was born in Toholampi, Finland on June 2, 1932, to Ilmari and Lyyli Lappi. Loving wife to Pentti Laakso predeceased 1995 and Antto Valiaho of Sudbury. Beloved Aiti to Markku Pentti Laakso (Beverly) of Sudbury and Marja Helena Laakso Venugopal (Matti) of Sudbury. Very special Tatti to Pekka Kaijankoski (Ritva) of Sudbury. She was the most precious Mummu to Stefan, Nathan (Chantal), Micah, Marla, Maija-Liisa, and Matti-Leena. She was a loving Iso-Mummu to Isaac, Aaron, and Julie. Special Iso-Tatti to Joshua, Petrina, Evelina and their children Estella, Michelle, and little Pippa. Taimi thoroughly enjoyed matriarchal responsibilities with Sulochana and Arcot Venugopal. Sister to Teuvo Lappi (predeceased)(Liisa) of Toholampi, Finland, Terttu Kaijankoski (predeceased)(Vaino) of Sudbury, and Ahti Lappi (Liisa) of Oulu, Finland. She had a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews. Taimi immigrated to Sudbury, Ontario, Canada in 1958, fearlessly, from Finland, and enjoyed the challenges of raising a family and working in her adopted country. Her pride and joy was her family. She loved nature, and the outdoors with a passion, and we were the beneficiaries of her delicious fish stew, and blueberry pies she made with her nature treasures. She was an amazing baker and cook and loved to share her meals with everyone. Our “Mummu” was always ready to lend a helping hand or a meal to anyone. It was her love language. She was an eager and proud teacher of Finnish food and culture, leaving her grandchildren with a life-long legacy to pass on. She had a strong faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which she loved to share with anyone she met. Her faith gave her the peace to leave this life and begin her journey to her heavenly home. She joins her husband Pentti Laakso in Heaven. Funeral Service will be held in the Finnish Pentecostal Church, 1843 Paris Street, Sudbury, on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at 11am. (Friends may gather at the church after 10am Friday). Interment in the family plot at the Maplecrest Cemetery. Donations to the Finnish Pentecostal Church or charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
