Born in in post-war Luxembourg to Warrant-Officer John Russell and Franceska Lamparski. Norman spent his first 12 years in Dudelange. Norman moved to New York City with his mother and brothers Mark and Ivor. After a couple years the brothers moved to Sudbury to live with an aunt. Norman worked underground at INCO and started a family that resulted in three sons, Steven, Craig and Kurt. After upgrading his education at Cambrian College, seeking adventure the family moved to South America where Norman worked as a mining engineer. Norman adapted to Peru very well, he picked up Spanish very quickly, in fact, he spoke seven languages, all with an accent. Over the next 41 years in Peru he worked hard in high altitude mines in remote areas of the Andes with the highlight being, the founding of Aesa Mining, growing it from a small start up of 17 men and a pick-up truck to over 1300 becoming one of Peruđs largest mining contracting firms. Norman also found time to explore Lima in search of the best places to enjoy a ceviche and a beer. Norman was beloved by his friends for his generosity and extraordinary tales of his life experiences. His daughter-in-laws, Angela and Gilliane were victims of his quick wit. Every Christmas resulted in alpaca hats, scarves and mitts shipped to his five grandchildren, Georgian, Derika, Aneira, Lukas and Karina who affectionately called him 'Abuelo'. Norman passed away peacefully on December 23rd with his dear friends Maria, Tessie and Paul at his side.
