Schneider, Gertrude 'Kay' (Levesque)

It is with deep sorrow that the family wishes to announce the passing of Gertrude “Kay” Schneider, (nee: Levesque), on November 1, 2018 at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully at Pioneer Manor after a long battle with Dementia, finally succumbing to a stroke. Predeceased by her parents John & Maggie Levesque, her second husband, John Schneider in 2011, her first husband, Marcel “Mark” Albert in 1975, brothers Eugene, Gilbert, George, John, sisters Theresa (Terry), Geraldine (Gerry), Donalda, grandson Justin, Step-grand-daughter Catherine Rose, and Stepson Robert Schneider. Survived by her two daughters, Theresa (Terry) Albert (husband Ron Langin), & Marlene Albert, grand-daughter Jennifer Westra (husband Shane), Step-grand-daughter Sarah Andersen, (husband Paul), Step-Grandson Scott Langin, Sisters Kathy, Loucille, Laura, brother Edgar, stepson Ron Schneider, Step-grandsons Brad & Troy Schneider, great-grandchildren Damon, Sierra, Dylan, Kate, Kyle, Connor & Mark. Born in 1926, & raised in Charlo, New Brunswick, Kay graduated from Dalhousie College in Accounting at the top of her class in 1944, at the young age of 17. She was very proud of her scholastic achievements. Kay moved to the Sudbury area in 1953 with her husband, then to Dowling where she became Post Master for 25yrs. Kay was always at the centre of family life, taking in many of her siblings to help them get a new start here in Ontario, hosting many holiday dinners, family weddings and baptismal receptions in her home. A skilled self-taught seamstress, she made many wedding dresses for family and friends, and kept her daughters in fashionable outfits. Kay loved to travel, & saw much of Canada from Coast to Coast, many varied destinations in the USA, Mexico, Europe, Mediterranean, Britain, & many more before settling on winters in Tampa Florida for many years. Kay & four of her sisters made annual trips to Charlo NB, “Back Home”, for well over 35yrs. Kay also loved the simple things in life such as weekend picnics with family & friends at Windy & Halfway Lakes, walks in the outdoors, berry picking, fishing, and potluck impromptu parties in the basement rec-room. She loved bowling, winning many awards and trophies in the Dowling leagues. She loved dancing, her and her husband Mark often went to local dance halls such as the Elks Club, and Dowling Hall. She will be remembered as a generous, loving, caring woman, who was born to be a “MOM”, who always said “Charity begins at Home!” and lived by that motto. At Kay’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private dispersal of her ashes will follow at a later date as per her wishes. Cremation entrusted to the Cooperative Crematorium, Chelmsford. The family would like to thank Red Oak Villa for the great care they gave Kay during her stay there. We would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to all the staff at Pioneer Manor, who showed Mom exceptional loving care during her “end of life” care. You treated her like one of your own and we thank you. Donations to the “Pregnancy Care Centre & Infant Food Bank” or “The Sudbury Women’s Centre” would be appreciated.
