In loving memory of Grant Erwin Boyce, age 87 years, who passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 with his loving family at his side. Beloved husband of Joanne Boyce nee Byrne for 63 years. Loving father of Deborah Boyce (Bob Cortese) of London, ON, David (Colleen Gordon) of Sudbury, Diane of Sudbury, Paul (Valerie) of Toronto, and Gordon (Jennifer) of Los Gatos, CA. Cherished grampa of Derek, Jessica, Connor, Michael, Katherine, Lauren, Anderson, Matthew, Zoey, Ryan, and Charlie. Dear great grampa of Evie, Cameron, Oliver, and Sloan. Predeceased by his parents Andrew Alexander Boyce and Evelyn Vera Boyce nee Fountain. Loving brother to Sheila Veitch predeceased (Elwood predeceased), Glenn predeceased, and Beverley Behnke (Lyle). Sadly missed by sister-in-law Betty Boyce and many nieces and nephews. Grant was raised on the 160 acre family farm situated in Lockerby between the former Memorial Hospital site and McLeod Public School. He worked for 34 years for various school boards in the Sudbury area retiring in 1987 as Superintendent of Business of the Sudbury Board of Education. He enjoyed a very successful second career as a Financial Planner with Investors Group during the following ten years. Grant was a committed volunteer serving as Master of Nickel Lodge, President of the Sudbury Shrine Club, Chairman of the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement Board (OMERS) and Chairman of the Cambrian College Board of Governors. He received several awards for service to his community and to his profession and was highly respected by many in Sudbury and beyond. Grant enjoyed woodworking, toiling on his computer, downhill skiing, and vacationing in warmer venues with Joanne. Special thanks to Courtney, Terry, Nicole and Dr. Bonin for their help and understanding. Thanks to Dr. Gill and all the nurses in Medical Day Care for their wonderful patience and caring. Thanks to the nurses in Oncology and Palliative Care, Health Sciences North with special thanks to Dr. Knight for his care and compassion during Grant’s final days. Visitation at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Memorial Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:30am (friends may gather at 11 am). Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium and burial at Civic Memorial Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at 4pm on Friday, November 2, 2018 under the auspices of Nickel Lodge. Donations of funds to the Northern Cancer Foundation or the Sudbury Shrine Club or donations of blood to Canadian Blood Services would be much appreciated by the Family.
