Bain, Constance 'Connie'

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Connie, in her 92nd year, on September 5th at St. Joseph’s Villa in Sudbury, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas in 2008, and brother Ron in 2006. Connie was the eldest child of Leonard and Nellie Towers of Sudbury, owners of the Towers Variety Store in Gatchell. She is survived by sister Carol Weatherly of Hollister, California and brother Brian Towers of Simcoe, Ontario. Mom will be greatly missed by her children, Martin (Linda Darling), Mary (David Cornthwaite) and Michael (Indira Simbhunauth), as well as grandchildren Laura, Steven, Jennifer, Alison, Jeffrey, Scott and Hailey and 11 great-grandchildren. Connie grew up in a loving and caring family and in turn nurtured her own. She will be remembered as a very kind and generous mother and friend. Connie became a registered nurse at Victoria College in London, Ontario moving back to Sudbury in the early 1950s to care for hospitalized patients there. She met and married Doug in 1953 and they became life-long partners. Mom enjoyed the outdoors and created wonderful flower gardens wherever she lived. She loved watching the birds and butterflies as they flitted through her gardens, and made sure the bird feeders were always full. Mom helped Dad build their dream summer cottage (aka “the camp”) at Trout Lake, which is still much enjoyed by the extended Bain families and friends. Mom believed in life-long learning, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to learn as much as they could. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the York Cemetery and Visitation Centre, North York at a future date. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lakeview Wing of St. Joseph’s Villa and the medical professionals at Health Sciences North for their kind and compassionate care over these recent years. In memory of Connie, donations to the Sick Kids Hospital would be appreciated.
