Karen passed peacefully in her bed on the morning of Monday, September 3rd 2018 without suffering. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Al Aho; her daughters Elizabeth Aho (Mathieu Aubin); Alison Aho (Evan MacAdam); her parents, Alex and Pirkko (Jousi) McCauley; her sister, Kelly McCauley (Derek Ball); and her niece and nephews Maggie McDonald, Jack McDonald, and Alex Wright, and extended family. Karen’s love of learning and passion for social justice was something she inspired in the students she taught, the children she raised, and the lives she touched daily. To say she will be missed is an enormous understatement. Karen would want us to continue her legacy of giving and putting others before ourselves. We are all better for having had her in our lives, and we are all changed as a result. The public may join us for a gathering on Friday, September 7th 2018 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm at Laurentian University Alumni Hall (above the Fraser Auditorium). Friends are also welcome to join us on Saturday, September 8th 2018 at 11:00am at Laurentian University in the lower Fraser Auditorium (parking in Lot 1) for a Celebration of Life Ceremony. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Karen McCauley Memorial Bursary at Laurentian University. Arrangements entrusted to Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
