Valiots, A. Selma (Vaakram)

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Selma Valiots (nee Vaakram) in her 99th year on Monday June 11, 2018 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Beloved wife to Jaak predeceased 1982. Daughter, sister and aunt to family in Estonia all predeceased. Loving mother of Jaak Alari, predeceased 1996 (Paulette Barbeau) and Ene Ann Querney. Cherished by her grandchildren Jaak Anthony Valiots and Alan James Querney (Shanelle Bisaillon). She will be forever loved by her great grandson Ethan James Querney. Selma’s kindness, wisdom and tenacity will be missed by her neighbours and friends on Reginald Street. Selma lived a large life. She made her way through 2 world wars and the Great Depression. She had a fulfilling 20-year career as the floor manager at the Coulson Hotel. She was a member of St Mathew’s Lutheran Church. Her passions included home, garden and family. She was fiercely proud of her beloved birth place, Estonia and an equally proud Canadian. Many thanks to those who made my mother’s wish to live independently at home possible: Bayshore Nursing, Meals on Wheels, neighbours, friends and the unwavering support of the CCAC. The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at HSN for their care and compassion for Selma. Visitation at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Friday, June 15, 2018. Friends may gather after 11:30 with a service at 1pm in the R.J. Barnard Chapel. Donations to the Northern Cancer foundation in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
