It is with profound sorrow that Lorrie, Lisa and Norm announce the death of our beloved husband and father, John ""Red"" MacDonald, 82 years, on April 18, 2018. He was the cherished son of Norman ""Doodle"" and Marie (Cox) MacDonald of Creighton Mine, both predeceased. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Lorrie (Blanchard) MacDonald, children Lisa of Aurora and Norm of Toronto, grandchildren John, Celina (Riley) and Mitchell Perron. Mourned by his son-in-law Stephane Perron. He is predeceased by his sister Donalda Mousseau (John predeceased), survived by his sister Norma Butkevich (Joe predeceased) of North Bay. John was born and raised in Creighton Mine. He developed his passion for hockey at an early age and went on to coach teams from Atom to Old Timers Association divisions. With Johnny Hamilton, they started the original Walden Oldtimers Hockey Club. John worked at Inco for 37 years, retiring from Creighton Mine in 1991. He was a volunteer fireman, a member of the winning 1975 All Ontario Parker Shield trophy for first aid (now Mine Rescue), a Health and Safety rep and a Steward for USW Local 6500. He had a strong sense of community, serving on the planning board for the Walden Arena (TM Davies Arena), and was instrumental in establishing the St. Stanislaus cemetery. With all of the time and effort extended for others in the workplace and the community, he always said he saved and savoured the best for himself: happy times at Lake Panache with family and friends, trips to Saskatchewan to deepen family ties, and for the last 19 years, trips to Portugal and to Florida with Lorrie (his human GPS). He was a kind, loving husband, father, and grandfather, a man who always spoke his mind. Those who really knew him were fortunate to have walked life's path by his side. Sincere thanks to Dr. Baigrie, Dr. Tilbe, Dr. Koop, the entire team at Maison McCulloch Hospice and Bayshore nurses, especially Terri. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice, NEO Kids, or Ronald McDonald House would be appreciated. Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury (Friends may call 2-5; 6-9pm Friday with parish prayers at 3pm Friday). Funeral Mass in St. Christopher’s Church, Whitefish Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at 10am. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
