Passed away peacefully on April 17, 2018 at the age of 94. Born in Eganville, as the first of three children to Michael and Gertrude Furlong, both pre-deceased. Rita was a gifted student who went on to Normal School in Ottawa, to become a teacher. Her teaching career brought her to various locations throughout Ontario and finally to Levack in 1950, where she met her husband Terry (pre-deceased), and resided there for the next 60 years. Rita is survived by her loving children, daughter Mary Kallio, husband, Peter, children Max (Erin) and Meaghan, and sons; John, his children Matthew and Adam; Charles; Terry his children Brett and Kelsey, spouse Linda and her children Trina (Justin) and Andrew (Mandy) and grandchildren Ames, Blake and Jack.. Beloved sister Joan Charette, sister-in-law Lucy Jordi, sister-in-law Sheila Alarie, and many nieces and nephews. Rita was pre-deceased by her brother Tom. Rita worked as a teacher at Levack Public School retiring after many years of service. She was a dedicated volunteer with Retired Teachers Association, The Catholic Women’s League and Inner City Home in Sudbury. Rita will be missed by many colleagues, family and friends and remembered for her kindness, generousity and selflessness. Visitation at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury (Friends may call from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M., Friday) Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church, Levack Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at 1 P.M. Interment in the family plot at Maplecrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Gabriel’s Villa or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Gabriel’s Villa in Chelmsford for their great care of Rita in her final years, and previously, staff at Meadowbrook Retirement Home in Lively.
