MacLeod, A. Catherine (Rankin)

In her 90th year, Catherine Annie was born April 11th, 1928 at West Mabou, Inverness County, NS and died March 7th at Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, ON. Daughter of Angus Peter Rankin and Mary Burke. Predeceased by husband John Angus MacLeod and siblings Catherine, Margaret, Elizabeth, Bridget, Christie, Marie and Alexander. Survived by her children Jessie (Leo), Sandra (Peter), Brian, and Barry (Michael), grandchildren Melissa (Tyrone), Scott (Kandis), Christina (Gilles), Leo (Natalie), Samantha, Liza (Matt) and Jordynne (Jordi) great-grandchildren Ashton, Makayla, Anthony, Makinley, Anson, Anderson, Ellie, Brody, Lily, Everlee, Amelia, and Lexi. Dearly loved by many nieces and nephews across Canada, she was the last of the Rankins of Rocky Ridge. One of her greatest joys was spending her summers at her beloved childhood home on the Rocky Ridge Road in West Mabou where she appreciated nature, visiting with her sisters and brother, many nieces and nephews and attending Scottish Ceilidh’s. The essence of our mother was love of God and family first and foremost, animals and music. She had an amazing sense of humour and never held a grudge. She was a long time dedicated member of the Cape Breton Club of Sudbury and provided the piano accompaniment for Johnnie and many other violin players over the years. She was a devout Roman Catholic all of her life and a longtime member of Little Servants of Christ the King Prayer Community. Many thanks to Dr Holub and all the Drs, Nurses and PSW’s who cared for her this past year at HSN and St Joseph’s Continuing Care. Special thanks for all of the compassionate care mom and our family received at Maison McCulloch Hospice by all the staff. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury and March of Dimes Sudbury branch appreciated. Funeral Visitation at the Lougheeds Funeral Home Hanmer/Capreol Chapel 4605 Michelle Dr., Hanmer Friday March 9th, 2018 from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass at St Kevin’s Roman Catholic Church 4610 St. Therese St., Val Therese Saturday March 10th, 2018 at 2:30pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
