With sadness the family announces the passing of Peter Woolnough, age 73, on Saturday February 24th, 2018 evening in Sudbury after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.     Beloved husband of  43 years to Shelby Woolnough (née Maki), devoted father to Nicole (Bradley Ekstrom) Woolnough of Hearst, ON and Erin (Mathew Taylor) Woolnough of London, ON.  Step-grandfather to Ross and Samantha Ekstrom.  Brother to Michael (Andrea) Woolnough of Toronto, ON and Robert (Elizabeth) Woolnough of Calgary, AB.  Predeceased by his parents Harold Ewart (Hal) Woolnough and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Cutler (Woolnough) (née Mcdonald).   Peter was born in Toronto, ON and raised in Aurora.  From an early age he spent summers at the family cottage in Muskoka which remained an important part of his life.  He graduated from Huron College at Western University and began working for Canada Life.  Work took him to Sault Saint Marie in 1970 where he met the love of his life Shelby.  Peter and Shelby married on July 6th, 1974 and decided to raise a family in Capreol, ON.  He was a dependable, well loved family man who balanced providing for his family with being involved in family life.     For 49.5 years Peter was a trusted and well-respected life insurance and financial advisor in Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario.  He was dedicated to his work, community and clients and was the embodiment of his personal statement ""Service to People.""      Peter was a long-time, 44 year, member and past President of the Sudbury Toastmasters Club, recently taking on the VP Education role.  He was passionate about the benefits and advantages of being a Toastmaster.    He passed his love of horses to Nicole and was an integral part of the Foothills Farm horse community.  He was the voice of the Northeast Trillium Association and the local Northern Equestrian Horse Show Circuits, spending over 25 years volunteering many hours announcing at horse shows.    He passed his love of music and the arts to Erin and was a long-time supporter of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra.   The family would like to thank the nurses at Health Sciences North who comforted us and helped Peter pass his final hours in peace.   A memorial service will be held at JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St, Sudbury, on Saturday March 10th at 1pm.  There will be an informal visitation prior to the service from 12 - 1pm, and a gathering for refreshments and sharing memories after the service.   Donations on Peter's behalf can be made to the Northern Cancer Foundation or the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra.
