Vincent, Frederick 'Fred'

It is with sadness and great love that our family announces the passing of Fred in Sudbury, Friday, February 9, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Beloved husband of Laurette Zettler-Vincent (née Valade) of Sudbury. Predeceased by his first wife, the former Flora Duchesne, in 1996. Loving father of Jeannette Vincent-Stevenson (Robert). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jacqueline Ashman (Richard), Bennett Stevenson (Rebecca) of Calgary, Nicola, Guerino, Annita and Roseria Nero all of Sudbury. Great-grandchildren Sophie Ashman, and Norah Stevenson of Calgary. Predeceased by his brothers Aldege (late Auxilda), Camille (late Annette), Ovila (late Stephanie), Sam (late Marguerite), and Leo (Laura). Stepfather to Michelle Zettler (Ron), Rachelle Zettler (late Frank), Rhea Dalton (Frank); and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred joined the army in 1943 Second Battalion Queen’s Own Rifles, CPL-Infantry Core, and was discharged in 1945 due to an injury. Fred worked at Inco in the Copper Cliff refinery from 1947-1982. Besides family his passion was volunteering. A veteran, serving other veterans. He never tired of helping war veterans and their widows in Sudbury and area for more than 35 years. Always going above and beyond to get the financial support they are entitled to (disability and service pensions) from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Fred was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years; the Ottawa Valley Club; Lockerby Legion 564 for over 60 years; steward and union trustee in the Steelworkers local 6500; founding board member of Rockview Seniors Coop; and Loyal of the Moose. In 2012 Fred received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada. His other favorite things in life were travelling, playing cards and dancing, he also did calls on square dancing. Fred’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Pioneer Manor 2nd floor Lodge 2 Ella for their compassion and the very best of care. We would also like to thank Darlene from We Care. A big thank you to you all. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, on Thursday, February 15th, 2018 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church, Sudbury. Burial with take place later in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations (by cheque only) to the Ronald McDonald House-Sudbury Family Room at Health Sciences North, St-Jean de Brébeuf Renovation Fund or to a charity of your choice. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
