The family announces with sorrow, Taimi’s death on the 5th day of January, at age 95. Taimi was the beloved wife of Emil Kiviaho for 66 years. He predeceased her on Dec. 26, 2016. Our Aiti will always be lovingly remembered by Bob Kiviaho, Sudbury, Eila Dressel (husband Peter), Maine, U.S.A. and Aili Ignacy (husband Ted), Ottawa. Cherished Mamma to David, Teegan, William, Mikko, Talia and Travis. Beloved Great-Mamma of Arya. Dear daughter of Lyydi and August Kaurinoja (both predeceased). Dear sister of Jenny Santala (husband Eino) (both predeceased). Loving Aunt to Gordon Santala (wife Diane) and their family, Katie and Allison (Dan) and their children Jack and Eila. Dear cousins Pentti Talpiainen (wife Eila), Sudbury, Kaija and Erling Lie (both predeceased), their children Karen Bonnelle (husband Robert), Hamilton and John Lie (son Eric), Toronto. Dear sister-in-law to Edward (wife Pat) (both predeceased), Eugene (wife Betty) (both predeceased), John (predeceased) (wife Evelyn), Allan Kiviaho (predeceased), Laila Kiviaho, Manitoulin Island, Billy Kiviaho, Sudbury and Anu Kiviaho, Sudbury. Dear aunt to many wonderful and loved nieces and nephews. Many dear relatives in Suomi (Finland). Taimi was of the Lutheran Faith. Taimi’s parents, August and Lyydi Kaurinoja emigrated from Finland. They established a family operated tourist business on the Spanish River in the 1930’s. Taimi was very proud of her Finnish heritage. Taimi was involved in the Emil Kiviaho Real Estate business for forty years. Taimi Kiviaho had a beautiful heart. She was extremely devoted to her family throughout her life and continually put her energy into helping all of us in every way. She dearly loved her family. Taimi was a very positive person, seeing the best in people and the world around her. Taimi strived for the highest ideals. Strong minded, smart and determined, she did what she knew was right for herself and others, regardless of the obstacles. Taimi was an open, honest, straightforward person, who instilled honesty and integrity in her children. She often said, “It’s most important to be a good person.” Taimi was enthusiastic about organic, natural food and good health. She enjoyed cooking fabulous meals. She walked daily and practiced yoga. She also taught us yoga and continuously encouraged her family to have a healthy lifestyle. She never tired of giving advice and was always a tremendous role model. Taimi was passionate about dancing since she was a child. She loved dancing with her husband Emil. As soon as they walked into the Legion dances, the Legion Big Band would play her favourite Finnish song, “Metsa Kukkia.”They attended dances into their 90’s, were highly skilled and a joy to watch. Rarely did they sit, but danced the night away. Taimi and Emil were featured on the front page of a newspaper for their dancing skills. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium, arranged by Lougheed Funeral Home, Sudbury Ontario. Ashes will be placed in a niche in the Veteran’s section at the Civic Cemetery on Second Avenue. No service will be held.
