died on January 7, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Jens was born in Holstebro, Denmark, on September 15, 1929, and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Settling in the Winnipeg area, Jens married Ella Syrjala in 1955. In Winnipeg, Jens worked for Ogilvie Mills and as a television repairman. Moving to Connecticut in 1969, he worked as a maintenance mechanic for a number of industrial operations. Upon retirement, Jens and Ella relocated to Little Fairbanks Lake Area of Whitefish to be nearer to their son and his family. Jens enjoyed working in his vegetable gardens, in his workshop and fishing. Beloved son of Jens Christian Krejlgaard and Karen Marie Krejlgaard (both predeceased) of Holstebro, and brother of Jenny, Ester, Anna, Etlar, Hilda, Mary, Lykke, Krestine, Ellen, Frida and Peder (all predeceased). Jens is survived by his son Jens Christian (wife Donna) of Sudbury, his grandchildren Jens (Jay) of Sudbury and Erika of Toronto, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, China and the United States. The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation of Dr. Bakker and the nursing and support staff of the Koivu wing of Finlandia Village and to the doctors and nurses of the emergency department and respiratory unit at Health Sciences North for all the compassion, support and care they provided to Jens during his illness. At Jens’ request there will be no viewing or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Finlandia SISU Charitable Foundation or to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Owen Sound would be appreciated.
