Maschio, Mary July 14, 1924 – November 1, 2017 Our much-loved mother and Nonna passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Pioneer Manor. Mary was predeceased by her husband Otello (1994), daughter in law Nancy (2002), parents Antonio and Maria DeGiacomo, and siblings Grace, John, Sec, Curly, Frankie, Ann, Jimmy, Linda, Irene, Jean, Angelo, and Fiori. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Leonard (Holly) and daughter MaryClare (Jim), grandchildren Christopher (Alicia), Caitlynne (Jeff), Gregory, Luke, Josh (Amy), and Jackie, and great grandchildren Mia and Luca. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and Italy. Mary was born in Fort William, Ontario and graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She worked with the VON for several years and was integral in the opening of branches across Western Canada. She eventually settled in Sudbury and spent many years working as a public health nurse, and did social services work at the Sudbury General Hospital. Mary was dedicated to her profession and will be remembered for her integrity, positive attitude, and most importantly, her kindness and compassion for others. Mary made friends wherever she went, and always left a lasting impression. She had a wonderful sense of style and always looked beautiful. Family and friends were the centre of her life, and many wonderful hours were spent sharing delicious homemade food and stories around the dining room table. Mary was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Parish where she sang in the choir for many years. She was active in the community and sat on several boards, including Meals on Wheels and the VON. Mary will be remembered as a gentle soul with great inner strength and a wonderful sense of humour. The family would like to express their deep and sincere appreciation for the care and kindness shown to Mary throughout her years at Pioneer Manor. The love and compassion demonstrated by all the staff in her final days truly touched our hearts.
