Dovigi, Mary Patricia (White)

Accepted God’s invitation to continue her journey to him, a day into her 75th year, peacefully at home, ending her lengthy battle with cancer, on Friday, September 15th, 2017. She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 51 years, Ed, her three children, Natalie (Shawn Robinson), of Barrhaven, Stephanie (friend Michael Abbott), of Stittsville, and Jennifer, of Alliston, four grandchildren, Patrick (Melissa), Talia, Ryan, and Baylee, her five great-grandchildren, Rowan, Taelyn, Hailey, Owen, and Alivia; her brother Jim of Kemptville and brothers-in-law Larry (Jocelyn) and Ronnie (Rachelle) of Hamilton as well as many nieces and nephews. Born on September 13th, 1943 in Mattachewan, Ontario, she moved to the Sudbury region in the early 1950s. She was a longtime teacher at GFSS and Lasalle SS, well-known for having her students make Shakespeare come alive in the twentieth century and find poetry in modern music. She actively supported her gymnast children as a founding member and long-serving past president of the Sudbury Laurels Gymnastics Club, also serving as a former Board Member and Regional Chairperson for the Ontario Gymnastics Federation. Pat loved the water and swimming, with her heart and soul happiest in the midst of her gardens along the shores of Lake Wahnipatae and watching her grandchildren enjoy the pleasures of the water. Pat will also be greatly missed by many special friends from the Mabouya valley in St. Lucia where she was a hands-on foster parent to two St. Lucian families. She was particularly proud of several of her children who completed their educations and have become employed professionals. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Northeastern Cancer Centre, and in particular to Dr. Singh and Janice in the Pain Management team for their unfaltering presence and support. Their deepest gratitude is sent out to Nurse Jenn and “angels” Chantal and Paulette whose ministering hands brought much soothing and comfort and whose beautiful indefatigable spirits brought much encouragement, humour and friendship to Pat’s final year. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bernardine’s Parish, Skead (continue 7.3 km straight past the Greater Sudbury Airport) on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Skead Community Centre. Floral or brightly coloured attire is encouraged at the Mass celebrating Pat's life. Gifts in Pat’s memory to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be most appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
