John (“JB”) Buchowski – October 27, 1929 – September 13, 2017. Beloved husband of 53 years, a dedicated and committed father and a loving and very proud grandfather, it is with great sorrow that we announce our father’s passing. He departed this world with strength, dignity and an unwavering sense of humour. John received so much joy from watching his grandchildren participating in sports such as hockey and soccer and attending multiple school concerts and activities of which there were many! Nothing made him happier than to have his family gathered at camp during the summer breaks and watching them enjoy what he had worked hard for to provide over the years. John was always very active. During the summer months when he wasn’t at camp, you could find him on a golf course. During the winter months, John loved to curl and was a lifelong member of the Sudbury Curling Club. He dedicated many hours of service to the Club from fundraising to repairs and enjoyed his Superior Lager after a game with great friends at his second home. He was honoured with an induction into the club’s Hall of Fame in 2016. And when he wasn’t participating in or watching sports, he could always be found fixing things or puttering around in his workshop. John was a devout Catholic who attended Christ the King Parish for over 50 years. He could be found at mass on Sunday morning or Saturday evenings every week. He was immensely grateful to see Father Jim during his stay at Health Sciences North (HSN). John was also an ardent supporter of the Red Cross. He gave blood on many occasions over the years and was always there for them when they called on him for their support. He began a long career with INCO at the Coniston Smelter in 1946 and retired from INCO’s Iron Ore Recovery Plant as a Maintenance General Foreman, after a notable 44 years of service. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Buchowski (nee Wisniewski). Beloved son of John and Justyna Buchowski (both predeceased). Brother to Mary, predeceased (brother-in-law Michael Shamley, predeceased), Helen (predeceased), and Steve. Dedicated and loving father of Michael (friend Jennifer Inglis) and Randy (Andrea Savage) of Sudbury, and Susan (Craig Partridge) of Toronto. Proud and dedicated “Grandpa” to Riley, Taylor, Kathrin, Meghan, Lauren, Maddie, Zachary and Alivia. He was also a loved brother– in–law (Wisniewski family) and a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. John strongly believed in and valued family. He looked forward to annual family reunions where he would have the opportunity to catch up with his large extended Wisniewski family. We would like to thank the staff at HSN for their care. In particular, we are sincerely grateful for the compassionate care John received by the Nursing and Personal Support Staff on the North Tower’s Cardiology Floor. John was a man that put his family first always and would have given anything to spend another month, week, or hour with them. He will be sadly missed by all of us and will remain a pillar in our lives and hearts forever. There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10 am at Christ the King Church, 30 Beech St., Sudbury. Following the mass there will be a Celebration of Life for John at the Sudbury Curling Club from 11:30 am to 3 pm. We invite family and friends to come toast John and share in his memories. In lieu of sending flowers, donations to the Health Sciences North Cardiology Unit would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home.
