It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Erid Jarvi, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on September 9, 2017 at Sudbury Health Sciences North. Erid was born on April 24, 1931 in Sudbury, Ontario. The eldest daughter of Eino and Ellen Puska (both predeceased), she spent her childhood on the family farm in Azilda. On June 30, 1951, she married Karl Jarvi (predeceased), her partner in life for thirty-eight years. Erid and Karl settled in Azilda where they raised their sons, Wayne (predeceased) and Jack. Home for the family also included the Jarvi farm in Wahnapitae and later a camp on Lake Penage. They were active members of the Finnish community in Sudbury. After the passing of Karl in 1990, Erid moved to the Sudbury Finlandia Village where she enjoyed her senior years. Throughout her life, Erid was an avid bowler who cherished the many trophies and ribbons that she won at league competitions. She also loved to read, knit and crochet and continued to enjoy these pastimes as her sight diminished. Erid will be remembered by her son, Jack (Aija) Jarvi of Saskatoon, Sk., grandson Dr. Evan Jarvi of Humboldt, Sk., sister Rita (Viljo) Romo of Wanup, nephews Keith Romo and Kevin Romo and family, brother Karl Puska of Barrie, nephew Neil Puska and his family and niece Cara Bedard and her family. She also leaves behind nephews Howard Nordman and family of Alix, Alberta and Eric Kannen and family of Sudbury, as well as cousins Seppo Puska and Tarmo Puska of Finland. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Finlandia, Health Sciences North and York Extendicare for their kindness and compassion as her health declined. We are especially grateful for the care and devotion of Rita and Viljo Romo as they tended to her needs over the years. Erid was blessed to have them in her life. At Erid’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will be at the Park Lawn Crematorium. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life in the Finlandiakoti Sali at Finlandia Village on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Donations to Finlandia Village would be appreciated. Please remember her with a prayer and kind thoughts.
