Lafrenière, Berthe (Charlebois)

We sadly announce the passing of Berthe Lafrenière (née Charlebois) on Wednesday morning at the McCulloch Hospice. Surrounded by family, she left us to join her first husband, Aimé Lafrenière, her parents, Léopold Charlebois and Anne-Marie (née Forest), and her brother Jean-Claude. She leaves behind her loving husband, Arthur Richardson. She will live on forever in the hearts of her four daughters, Josée, Sylvie (Jay Fitzsimmons), Julie (Steve Mason) and Roxane, and of her four beloved grandchildren, Alexandre Lafrenière (Michèle Biss), Simon Lafrenière-Silliker, and Sophie and Adele Mason. She leaves behind an enormous gap in the lives of her brothers and sisters, Gabrielle (late Gilles Lepage), Marc (Maria), Guy (Danielle), Pierrette (Mark Armstrong), Marielle (Mario Giroux), Jacqueline (Sid Duggan), Bernard (Monique), and the whole Charlebois clan, as well as the Lafrenière and Forest clans. She will be deeply missed by the Richardson family: Joyce, Paulette, Paul, Monique, late Jean-Marc (late Debra) and Carole (Paul Tarini), as well as their children and grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends in Sudbury, Tracadie-Sheila (N.B.), France, and elsewhere. Berthe was born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, and spent her childhood in Lavigne and Verner. She studied in Sudbury at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She spent the rest of her life in Sudbury, raising a family and working at St. Joseph Hospital and at the health services of Laurentian University and Cambrian College. She was also very active in the community over the years, particularly with the Jaycees, the Service d’orientation des foyers (SOF), the Dames auxiliaires du Club Alouette, the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, Maison La Paix and McCulloch Hospices, the pastoral services of Laurentian Hospital, University of Sudbury, the Club Richelieu féminin and the La Toussaint and Ste-Anne parishes. Berthe was known for her kindness, serenity and generosity, for the warmth of her welcome and for her sense of humour. We will remember her every time we see a hummingbird, a beautiful garden or sparkling clean windows, when we hear birdsong or the laughter of children, and when we eat a toasted tomato sandwich or a Mars bar. She leaves us with her favourite blessing: “I wish you enough.” TNAPT. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Ste-Anne-des-Pins Church, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice.
