It is with great sadness that the Melin family announces the passing of Raymond (Ray) Frederick Melin on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 at Extendicare York, Sudbury, at the age of 89 years. He is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred (nee Moxam) Melin. He and his twin Freda (Punkari) were born in 1928 at Copper Cliff Hospital. He is predeceased by his sisters Freda and Judith (Moxam) and a brother lost in infancy. He was cherished by his children Sandra Frantz (predeceased), Brian (Rita), Gary (Dawn), Miles (Bonnie), and Darlene Melin and will be remembered for the strong work ethic and dedication to family that he instilled. His 11 grandchildren (Karl, Jason, Travis, Shannon, Crystal, Nathan, Josh, Ian, Warren, Morgan, and Mackenzie) and 12 great grandchildren will remember him as a Papa with a great sense of humour and love for animals and children, and spending time on his family’s farm. Ray retired from Fisher Construction in 1998 after over 50 years of service as a model employee. He spent his retirement years chopping wood, spoiling family pets and grandkids, and relaxing with Millie. He will be missed by his brother in law Richard Moxam as well as the Freeman cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Our thanks goes out to both Extendicare York and Extendicare Falconbridge for the respectful care that he received. Although our Ray of sunshine has gone out, we will forever feel the warmth of his love. Memorial Service in the Lougheed Funeral Home 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Sudbury Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 11:30am. Cremation with interment in the family plot at Waters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. (Friends may gather after 10:30am Saturday).
