Ovens, V.M. Isabel (Marsaw)

The family of Isabel regretfully announces her passing just 5 days before her 94th birthday at Pioneer Manor where she was in the capable hands of the many kind women working there. She was particularly fond of Miriam, Tina-Louise, Jill and Jennifer. Isabel was predeceased by her parents Carrie (Barnum) and Earl Marsaw as well as her five siblings, Howard, Roy, Peggy, Wesley (wife Beatrice) and Morris. She had six children John, Gloria, David (infant predeceased), James predeceased (wife Julianna), Patrick (wife Joanne) and Suzzi. She also had several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Isabel was married for 54 years to Jerry Ovens predeceased 1998 whom she met while working at Inco during the war, after Jerry came home wounded. After her children left elementary school, she returned to the work force into a number of different occupations, cooking, waitressing at various restaurants, a cleaner at the Inco offices, then went back to school and worked at Extendicare Falconbridge for 17 years until her retirement at the age of 67. She resided in the family home in Copper Cliff until macular degeneration robbed her of her sight at the age of 84. Isabel was particularly fond of cats and dogs. A favorite saying was “some her favorite people were dogs”. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated. At Isabel’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation and a Catholic interment will take place at the Ovens family plot at LaSalle Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank Gerry Lougheed Jr. for his compassion and friendship at this trying time. (Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home)
