HAYES, B.J. Mitchell 'Mitch'

In Loving Memory of Sergeant Mitchell Bruce John Mayes (Mitch) March 1961 – January 2016 Passed away peacefully, at Health Sciences North. Son of Bruce and Donna (predeceased 2008), brother of David (Colleen), Merideth (Robert Spark). Cherished uncle of MacKenzie. Sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers. In 25 years Mitchell served his country in many capacities such as Private, Drill Instructor, Master Corporal and retiring as Sergeant with the Second Battalion Irish Regiment of Sudbury. As a decorated soldier, Mitch was a pallbearer in Belgium for three World War II Newfoundland Airmen, and also took part in two funeral parades at the Canadian Monument at Vimy Ridge. He served at many bases throughout Canada including the National Defense Headquarters in Ottawa, as well as two postings at the United Nations in New York City. More recently he returned to his former high school Sudbury Secondary as a student supervisor where he will be fondly remembered by students and staff alike. Memorial Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury Saturday, January 30th, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. Cremation with entombment in the Civic Cemetery Mausoleum. (Friends may gather after 12:45 P.M. Saturday) In lieu of flowers, donations to Veterans’ Families or the Northern Cancer Foundation.
