RAUHALA, M. Judith (Lapierre)

With great sorrow we announce that Judith Mary Rauhala (Lapierre) at the age of 65, ended a long battle with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) on October 1st, 2014 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury.   Judy was born in Sudbury on October 15th, 1948 to Tom and Mary Lapierre, both pre-deceased.    She is survived by Carl, her beloved husband of 43 years, was the loving mother of Daryl (Tamara) of Stittsville, and Kim of Vancouver, and cherished grandmother of Avery and Ashton.  Judy is also survived by siblings Linda Kiviaho (Sandy), Wendy Gee (Keith), and Tom Lapierre (Heather), close knit in-laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all whom have been so very helpful over the years.  Judy spent her childhood on the family farm in the quiet west end settlement of Whitefish. School years travelled the path via Whitefish Public School, Copper Cliff High, Laurentian University and teacher's college in North Bay. Her early career started at Our Lady of Fatima School in Naughton at the age of only 18.  She continued teaching for the Catholic school board into her forties, when focus shifted to staying healthy, as a genetic PKD disease necessitated a kidney transplant at the age of 48.   Many good years were to follow, as Judy spent time learning folk art, crafting and working on an endless collection of loons and angels.  She took great pride in keeping flowers blooming and trees full of life around the home. Summers saw family and friends relaxing on Manitoulin Island, when not home on the shores of Black Lake in Lively. Judy was fortunate enough to travel much of Canada before her health declined, and more recently thoroughly enjoyed time with her granddaughters. We are blessed that the medical system was able to provide almost 20 bonus years of love, life and happiness, for Judy to be part of so many special life events.  Our warmest thanks go out to the staff at Health Sciences North, particularly the dialysis unit.  Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5th, 2014 from 2 to 5 PM at Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Sudbury.  Donations may be made to the PDK Foundation of Canada endpkd.ca
