The Mills family regret to announce the passing of their beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Malcolm McLean Mills. Born in Montreal, Quebec, his parents took him home to Scotland when he was two years old and he resided there for 32 years. In February of 1962, Malcolm, his wife Chris, and six children immigrated to Canada where two more children were born and raised. Malcolm was a loving husband to Christina Mills for 65 years and the adored father of Gloria Mackwood, Jennifer (husband Bert Juusila), Lorna Holman, Jim (Maureen), Garry (Ann Marie), Christina and Kevin. Cherished Papa to Kimberly, Dr. Jamie Adair (Stephanie), Mandy, Cindy (Eric), Drew, Ryan (Yvette), Leah (Andre), Malcolm (Sarah), Ricky, Sarah, and great grandchildren Kayla, Lexi, Liam, Evan, Ethan, Drew, Sienna, Ava, and Scarlett. Malcolm was predeceased by his son Malcolm Mills in 1975, his parents Jeannette and Malcolm Mills, his brother Lawrence McDonald Mills, and his sister Sylvie Tompkins. Survived by his sister Margaret Kelly (husband Jim) of Scotland. Sadly missed by his best friend William “Bill” McIlmoyle (Lenore). Malcolm was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the International Military Police in Vienna, Austria. He was a member of the Royal Military Police (Redcaps) and the Scottish Beach Brigade, whose motto “By example shall we lead” defined his life. In Scotland he worked as a Rolls Royce Engineer, and upon coming to Canada he joined the Copper Cliff Police Force, later retiring as Staff Sergeant of the Sudbury Regional Police after 34 years, having earned a medal for Exemplary Service. Mere words could never convey the full life Malcolm lived. His greatest legacy was and always will be his family. He was the epitome of grace in every regard. He was a large, charismatic gentleman, who innately possessed honour, humour, strength, compassion, and kindness. He led by example, lived through love, treating all as equals. A spirit like Malcolm’s never goes away, but continues to shine bright, guiding all who have known and loved him, including all his furry friends. “I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see. I sought my God, but my God eluded me. I sought my brother and I found all three.” We love you, Papa. The family sincerely appreciates the care given to Papa by the staff at Health Sciences North Respiratory Care Unit and St. Joseph’s Villa and Rehab Center. Special thanks to Dr. Killian deBlacam and Dr. Mary Kerr. A private family service will take place at a later date. Cremation with interment in the Waters Cemetery. Donations to the Health Sciences North Foundation (Respiratory Care Unit, 6th Floor, South Tower) or St. Joseph’s Villa would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
