KREJLGAARD, A.L. Ella (Syrjälä)

Died on May 15, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Ella was born in Lahti, Finland, and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Settling in the Winnipeg area, she worked in a number of jobs before joining Golden and Son as a clerk. She married Jens Vagner Krejlgaard in 1955. Moving to Connecticut in 1969, she worked as a clerk for Amphenol RF for 25 years. Upon retirement, Ella and Jens relocated to the Little Fairbanks Lake area of Whitefish to be nearer to their son and his family. Ella enjoyed working in her flower gardens and practising calligraphy. She cherished time with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed baking with her granddaughter. Beloved daughter of Väinö Syrjälä, and Elin Syrjälä (both predeceased) of Nastola, Finland, and sister of Heimo (predeceased) and of Jaakko (wife Seija) (both predeceased), Ella is survived by her husband, son Jens Christian (wife Donna) of Sudbury, her grandchildren Jens (Jay) of Sudbury and Erika of Toronto; sisters Auli Mikkola (husband Matti) and Soile Korhonen (husband Mauri) both of Lahti; and by nephew Pekka Syrjälä of Nastola and niece Kaisa Syrjälä of Nastola. Ella will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Bakker and the nursing and support staff of the Koivu wing of Finlandia Village and to the doctors and nurses of the dialysis unit at Sudbury Regional Hospital for all the compassion, support and care they provided to Ella during her illness. At Ella’s request there will be no viewing or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Copper Cliff would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
