KUIK, Juergen (Slim) - Peacefully at St- Joseph's Health Center, Sudbury Wednesday December 9th, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family, in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Jeanine (née Barbe) Kuik, of Sudbury. Loving father of Christine (Husband Corey) Houle and Jonathan (friend Diane), both of Sudbury. Treasured Opa to Thomas and Ryan Houle. Dear brother of Hans Herman Kuik (Wife Ursel) and Manfred Kuik (wife Eveline) of Germany. Predeceased by his sister Hilda and his brothers Klaus and Franz, all of Germany. Juergen was born in Germany, coming to Canada and Sudbury in 1956 and commenced working with INCO Limited at the Copper Cliff smelter, retiring in 1991, after 34 years of service. For many years he enjoyed his cottage in Sturgeon Falls, as well as his home and surroundings, especially his potato and carrot garden. Juergen was a special 'Opa' to his two beautiful grandsons Thomas and Ryan and will be missed by his canine friend Missy. He enjoyed returning to Germany for a visit and took great pride in showing his German family the sites of Northern Ontario and Canada on their return visits. He also embraced his sincere friendship with the Barbe and Gauthier families. Juergen was a faithful member and active parishioner of St. Patrick's Church. The family wishes to thank the Community Access Center and the Bayshore Home Care providers, Dr. Chris McKibbon, Dr. Miguel Bonin, Dr. Tom Urban, Dr. Clyde Hourtovenko and the Riverside cardiac team, Dr. Paul Gibb and his wife Lynne and all the other health care professionals. Resting at the CO- OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. (at Notre-Dame), Sudbury where relatives and friends may call Friday December 11, 2009 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. A vigil prayer service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 39 Walford Rd., Sudbury. Cremation to follow. If you so desire donations (by cheque only) to the Inner City Home, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
