COTNAM, John Anthony - In Loving Memory of John Anthony Cotnam 90 years who passed away Friday, December 4th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian site. Born on July 29th, 1919 in Pembroke, Ontario. He grew up on Allummette Island, Quebec across the Ottawa River from Pembroke, a true Ottawa Valley son from an Irish Catholic family. John was the 5th eldest of 12 children. Cherished husband of 66 years of Helen Ohla (Cybulka) Cotnam. Beloved father of Jessie MacIsaac (Charlie predeceased) of Sudbury, Gary (wife Heli) of Manitouwaning, Manitoulin Island, John (friend Joyce Menger) of Ottawa and Don (wife Roberta) of Sudbury. Dear grandfather of Liisa Juusola Cotnam of London and Melody Cappelletti Cotnam (predeceased) of Sudbury. Great grandfather of Alexandra and Lauren Lemega of London. Son of Martha and George Cotnam (predeceased) of Pembroke. Dear brother of Frank, Ken, Cecil, Gladys, Alice Harold and Gerald all predeceased and George (wife Leona) of Kingston, Elaine (Don Risto) of Petawawa, Joan (Desjardins) of Pembroke and Betty Griffin of Bryson P.Q. Godfather of Brenda Mutuchky Follis of Brantford and Kathy Kelly of Sudbury. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and their families and well remembered by his friends. John came to Sudbury seeking employment from the Ottawa Valley. He started as a laborer at INCO in 1940 at the Copper Cliff Smelter. John retired as a shift boss in 1978 with 38 years service. He was well respected at the workplace for his inspired work ethic and gave full value for his efforts. A devout Roman Catholic, he belonged to Christ the King Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. A keen gardener, his green thumb produced beautiful vegetables and flowers. He was an accomplished wood worker and a skilled Mr. Fix-it. He was a life member of both the Ottawa Valley Club and the Caruso Golden Age Club where he enjoyed socializing with his friends. John embodied his wedding vows to love, respect and honor his precious wife Helen of 66 years. He will be remembered as a good provider, wise mentor and reliable rock to his family. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME 233 Larch St. Sudbury. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church. 30 Beech St. Sudbury, Monday, December 7th, 2009 at 10 a.m. Interment in the Civic Cemetery Prayers at 3 p.m. Sunday.
