December 4, 2009 94

ST. PIERRE, Eva (Edith) Margaret (nee Baker at the age of 94, slipped peacefully away at her residence in Brockville Ontario at 7:30 p.m. December 01, 2009. Eva was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 30, 1915, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Baker. Eva was the only sister to six brothers. She attended Birch Cliff Public School graduating 2 years ahead of her peers. Upon completing a secretarial course she moved to Sault Ste. Marie to obtain work. On travelling home from the Sault by train Christmas 1934 she met her future husband. Eva married Ray St. Pierre on May 24, 1937 in Toronto. They moved to Sudbury and started their family. In her early years, Eva attended Gatchell Gospel Chapel, where she was often asked to teach a Sunday school class, or care for a travelling preacher and his wife. Later she attended Glad Tidings Tabernacle, and in her quiet, gentle way, was known for her kindness and gifts of knitting to many new mothers. Her chicken soup and brownies will be remembered by many. Eva cared for her family with a loving heart and busy fingers, making their clothes and knitting for all the children. She shared her faith and taught her children well and when they were on their own, travelled to see them as much as possible. Eva trusted in God and that saw her through many trials allowing her to encourage others. In late 2001, Eva and her husband moved to Barrie in search of a better senior living and then on to Brockville in 2008. Eva is survived by her husband of 72 years Ray St. Pierre. Her children, Beth (Elizabeth - husband Ken MacNeil) of Brockville; Barbara (husband Frank Wood) of Sydney, Australia; Bill (William - wife Gloria) of Barrie; Lawrence (wife June) of Barrie and Evelyn (husband Joe (Bryan) Davie) of Sudbury, 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren living around the world. A private family memorial will be held in Barrie at a later date. Thank you to those who shared in her life and brought joy and friendship. A great race has been run and the battle fought. She's now home in Heaven to meet with loved ones and enjoy God's blessed peace. Memorial donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Society or the Sudbury Samaritan Centre.
