Furlong, Michael

November 13, 2009 80

FURLONG, Michael (Mike) - Passed away at the age of 80 years, with the people whom which loved him so very dearly right by his side, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at his family's home in Skead, Ontario. Mike was brought into the world in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on March 18, 1929 through his loving parents Claire (Dupuis) and Arthur Furlong. His family relocated shortly after Michael's birth to Creighton,ON. then residing in Skead ON.and finally Sudbury, ON. Mike is predeceased by the Love of his Life Jackie (Renaud) on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Mike was the best dad ever that daughter Michelle could have ever asked God to loan to her. There is no other father she knew of growing up in the late sixties that would play barbie dolls, have tea parties and take her swimming whenever she simply asked him to. He was always more then willing to take many of Michelle's girlfriends along with them to Florida on family vacation. Mike was a kind father in law to Werner Boeswald and an extremely devoted Papa to both Michael and Christopher. Mike loved spending time teaching Michael how to invest his money wisely. Papa Mike would spend countless of hours in the Skead bush helping Christopher cut firewood to help heat their home during the winter months. In his younger years Mike managed several theaters in Sudbury. He began his career with Labatt's Ontario Breweries in 1961 as a sales representative retiring after 30 years of pleasure. He genuinely enjoyed his job and his many loyal customers across Northern Ontario. Mike was a member of many great organizations such as the Lion's Club and the ACT where he volunteered his time to make the Sudbury community a better place. Throughout Mike's life, he took some risks such as buying real estate, investing into small businesses and taking a chance in the stock market. Taking smart and calculated risks was one of Mike's greatest passions! He and his comical wife Jackie spent many winter months enjoying the sunsets on Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Mike was fortunate enough to achieve one of his life long goals after retirement which was “purchasing a condo on the beach in Fort Myers, Florida, not across the street from the beach, because Mike did not work tirelessly all of his life to retire on the opposite side of the Atlantic ocean“! A firm believer in exercise you could see Mike regularly walking slowly but surely his South End loop in Sudbury. At the age of 79 Mike was still walking up to 20 km daily. He very much enjoyed the nightly gossip with his buddies at the Tim Horton's on Martindale Avenue. His daughter Michelle will extremely miss his dry sense of humor, his keen business advice and most importantly her dad's love and unconditional support. A devout Roman Catholic, in part because of his wife Jackie, he attended weekly mass faithfully at Our Lady of Hope. Survived by his only child daughter Michelle, son in law Werner Boeswald and grandsons Michael and Christopher. Survived by his sister Joan Prytaluk (husband Stan). Predeceased by his brother Patrick (wife Doreen), sister June Jones (husband Ken), sisters Edith Furlong and Delores Furlong. Predeceased by his brother in laws Charlie Renaud (wife Evelynne), Johnny Renaud (wife Olga), Paul Renaud (wife Joanne), Victor Renaud, Joe Renaud, sisters in law Jeanette Young (husband Bud) and Loretta Prytulak (husband Danny). Michael Furlong's appetite for frugality, humbleness and most of all the simpler things in life will forever be embedded in our hearts and in our memories. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Kerry Creswell, Mike's Bayshore Nurse and Doctor Linda Tenhunen for their kindness, their compassion and most importantly their humanity. At Mike's insistence, there will be no visitation, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated, at Our Lady of Hope church at 591 Brennan Street, on Saturday November, 14 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Friends may gather at the Church after 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations (by cheque only) to The Ten Rainbows Foundation or NOFCC two local charities would sincerely be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, Sudbury, ON.
